The title to one of my favorite hymns is my beginning theme to this post. Following the death of President Gordon B. Hinckley I have rested on the knowledge that this title best fits what I am feeling.
On Sunday a few weeks back the ward gave us booklets called "40 Days Closer to Christ" It is a challenge to read through the Book of Mormon in 40 days. I have also come across another pamphlet that gets you through the entire Standard Works (The Bible, The Book of Mormon, The Doctrine and Covenants, and The Pearl of Great Price) in 6 Months, 1 Year or Two Years. All are very advantageous goals as the world is so busy it leaves little room for what should hold an important place in our hearts.
Then I recieved an e-mail from my cousin with a link I had not heard of called Hinckley Challenge.Com. I decided to explore this one holds President Hinckley's Challenge to read The Book of Mormon in 97 days. It was based off of his original challenge in the summer of 2005/06? To read it through by the end of the year. Anyway, I have determined that clearly the message is to read and study and ponder and pray! The Worldwide leadership meeting for all adults this last weekend was a strong message that we are in perilous times and we need to hold fast to the Iron Rod (for those who may not know what I am refering to it is another name for The Book of Mormon.) To safeguard our families against the wiles of the world and Satan's near blatent attempts at destruction. I am happy that it will be reproduced for review online and in The Ensign as it will likely become supplemental scripture.
This time is auspicious and we as Mormon's are in the certain spotlight more now than ever. We must be the light unto the world. The spirit of God is burning in the hearts of many men (women/children) as a testament by anyone who reflects it in thier commitment to read and study the Book of Mormon.
May we be the 5 Wise and choose one program if you haven't already, for surely it should be one of President Hinckley's 6 "B's" Be Prepared...that we are all working toward. But it does help us with the real 6 "B's" Be Grateful, Be Smart, Be Clean, Be True, Be Humble, Be Prayerful.
