I TRIED TO WARN YOU WARNING
While my last couple of blogs have been prompted by pleas from those who really wish to read about my mundane life, today I do it on my own. I have been thinking about updating my blog and just simply didn't feel that I had anything exciting or clever to talk about. I'd much rather read about other people's than bore those who tell me that my blog is great.... Boy do they need a life or something....
With that off my chest, and my blogs lately been more of a recap and journal than a well written article, I warn you now its no different.
BIGGEST LOSER VS THE FLU
This month started with a serious enthusiasm! I weighed in at the Continental Airlines ticket counter at the airport where I work, for the local version of "Biggest Loser". (I'm not ready to disclose my starting weight yet. Maybe at the end, when the cheers will be loudest) The reason for thier counter was simply because they are organizing it. Raring to go and having signed up for a Zumba class, two days of regular aerobics, and a fresh log on to FatLoss4Idiots.com. I planned on a successful month ahead of me with grand expectation for March's weigh in. (This goes until August). Then.....
a set-back. The FLU hit our house and within 5 days I also carried a secondary infection, necessitating antibiotics. The cough was so terrible that just walking with any extra pace to or from the car to any building (i.e. the doctor's office) made me winded and put me into a real coughing fit. All my Aerobics and Zumba was definately out. My generated diet with protiens, dairy, and other foods not conducive to help a phlem situation made the food part of the diet out :-( I was bummed. This was lost time.
I was home and ill for around two weeks and this was also while I had all of my children home and ill as well. It was worse than an extended school vacation or summer break because I couldn't reasonably send them outside to expose the neighborhood, that and the weather was not exactly the greatest.
So now I am healthy for the most part, I am soon to contend with the dreaded allergy season and am "building" what I can to keep my immunity up. I am also a regressed asthmatic and have a new inhaler, which was necessary at my first workout since the illness has passed.
On the Up-swing, I have had a renewed energy for chasing after an old dream... acting. I have taken steps to put myself out there and even seek training. I even have had one audition, but up against hundreds of others, reality says "perseverance."
YOU HAVE A GREAT VOICE, YOU SHOULD DO COMMERCIALS.
Knowing that the market I live in, is more of a hobby actors market. I began exploring voice-over and voice-acting. In many markets inclusing this one, the reality is there to actually make a full to part-time living off of.
I took a community ed class where the instructor is a voice-over producer for some cable channels like HGTV and Discovery Channel. Boy, I was excited. The class went well, even though I was still struggling with the Flu and my voice wasn't 100%.
What I learned is that I have a voice that is radio quality. I've never heard anyone tell me that I should be on the radio or that my voice stands out. My experience told me that my voice gets lost in a crowd.
But during the class, I actually read copy into a "quality" microphone, recorded to digital format, and without any editing replayed back. I was floored to say the least. At first I didn't even know I was hearing my voice, and I've heard it many times over the loudspeaker at work during the times when I make boarding or delay announcements.
I took the offer at the end of the class to have a free evaluation done and a phone call the next day to tell me if they thought I had a shot.
I heard 3 things out of the many they told me, but they were all encouraging enough, I am going to make a demo CD! I was told that I could act! (Yeah, always wanted confirm on that) I wasd told I had great tone and great diction. They suggested Narrative work or public service announcements and I couldn't have been more giddy.
THE VOICE OF AN AIRLINE
After all this came about, I had a sit down chat with one of my supervisors about my attendance. (I knew this was coming since I had missed so many days). She then asked about my goals and knew that I was taking some steps to work toward my acting. I told her about the voice-acting class and review and she said, get me a copy of your work and I'll send it to corporate for you.
Wow, I didn't know I'd need a demo CD so quick. Who knows the next time you call the airline to book a flight and you are on hold, you may hear me telling you about the great vacation packages, our new destination, special, or that we'd like to get to your call quickly and thanks for your patience. *snicker*
Or better yet, the voice on the radio ads! You could know someone who's famous, yet without a paparazzi fan following.
